Story of An Artist

I am a multi-media visual artist and creator who uses painting and abstract collage to express ideas of transience, journeys, materialism, personal identity, and legacy.

In 2011 – during and after my battle with cancer – my personal life and my creative work faced a major transformation, and painting as well as writing became integral elements of my creative expression.

I enjoy "improvising" and experimenting with the medium, form, structure and texture. One of the recurring themes in my work, is "transience," and "re-discovery" (recycling of previously used scraps of paper, cardboard, wood, etc.). I also continue with my exploration of the surrounding world through lens and digital photography which occasionally inspires my paintings, too.

My most recent endeavour is to explore ideas of time/space, energy and particles, as well as a concept of "fluid reality"...

Midnight Sun

Exploring the subject matter of transience, personal reflection and journey, my approach to this painting remained similar to the previous ones. However, this time the colours are more subdued, the textures richer and more playful. I also decided to experiment with the spray paints to give the whole piece a touch of ephemerality.

Journey III

Continuing with the subject matter of journey and landscapes: this time, the scale is bigger and the colours are brighter, while still exploring the different textures. I chose the brighter colours as well as different textures to evoke the excitement and mindfulness of travel, whether discovering new places, or returning home.

Transient series

What began as a single painting exploring the idea of transience in one's life is slowly turning into a group of paintings with the same theme. Experimenting with different colour schemes and paint application, these paintings represent the mundane; different places and their consistent yet every changing presence and "beauty".
